Sometimes I get heartburn but I am luckier than many thanks to the fact is mostly something that happens only occasionally. Heartburn is a very uncomfortable and unpleasant sensation that makes people wonder why they are experiencing and they may experience the symptoms quite regularly.

When I get a bout of heartburn it usually disappears
almost without being noticed as it is just no longer there. But for some people the symptoms of heartburn are a frequent problem it is part of their normal lives.

In the majority of cases the cause of heartburn is thought to be a result of failure in the normal operation of the small sphincter valve which fails to close in the correct way when it should. The valve should close when not passing food through the throat which then prevents and of the stomach gases rising and causing damage the lining of your throat but sometimes for various reasons it can fail and when this occurs the gases can rise up to give you the uncomfortable burning sensation we all know. Knowing this makes it easy to understand the burning feelings we experience when suffering from acid reflux or heartburn symptoms.

Should the valve remain open for a long period of time it might damage the throat lining the odd bout of mild heartburn does not usually cause any significant problems. It is very important that any medical condition is properly investigate so seek a diagnosis from your doctor if you have any concerns about your health and be guided accordingly.

There are some actions we can take to try to lessen the effects of symptoms of heartburn and cut down how often attacks may develop. Occurrences of heartburn and acid reflux seem to happen to me if I am feeling tired so it seems logical if you can improve your sleeping habits it may help your resistance to such attacks.

I often read that there are foods that many people find lead to periods where heartburn occurs and reducing coffee consumption can help as may reducing how much spicy food you eat. It is also suggested that smoking may aggravate the problems and I expect this is due to the smoke having an effect on the throat lining and making matters worse.

Like a lot of other health conditions and issues eating sensibly with plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit whilst maintaining a level of good fitness and ensuring you sleep properly can all help. Managing your eating exercise and sleeping patterns may lower the likelihood of heartburn as well as cutting back the number of bouts you experience of this and also reduce the severity of the symptoms of acid reflux you suffer.
